What is the difference between a Costco Shed and Central Oregon Outbuilders’ Shed?
Make no mistake that over the years, the quality of products and services in America have dwindled thanks to the efforts of congress with bad trade deals. The loss of jobs in America has driven morale to the brink of despair which makes quality a thing of the past. Not with us. Our sheds versus Costco sheds are built with local materials and labor which brings jobs to Central Oregon as we continue to grow. Recently, we have seen growth in the stock markets after the election of 2016 so our economy is picking up and we are extremely grateful. Quality is stamped on every shed we build, and we do it from scratch.
Costco sheds cost ‘sometimes’ the same as our sheds, but many things are missing:
Assembly Required
You have to build it. That’s right. You have to build the Costco shed. We build it for you for free. It takes an unexperienced builder a week to build their Costco shed compared to our 2 hours. We show up with the materials and labor. All you do is watch!
Shipping
There is time involved if you “order” a Costco shed. They are not located in the store and built. It can take up to 4 – 8 weeks for your materials to arrive and they don’t include the nails, glue, screws and get this – no shingles!
Unpacking
The Ikea style packaging is nice but it takes at least 2 hours to unpack everything. It’s labor intensive. The time you spend unpacking your Costco shed, we could have done it free.
No customization
The Costco shed comes “as is”. We can negotiate with you to add a window here or the the door there. Custom!
Cost difference
Add another $400 to the items that you will need to purchase from the ‘Ikea style’ package that does not come with:
- Roofing nails
- Wood glue
- Drip guard
- Paint
- Roof shingles
- Caulk
The quality of materials you get with a Costco Shed are poor, despite the fact that the pieces of wood are pre-cut, you will encounter some bowed and/or bent pieces because of the shipping. The installation manual says you can call customer service for replacements, but who wants to wait around to have a 2 x 4 delivered? The bottom line is we are cheaper, have better quality, will assemble and have it done in 2 hours versus buying a Costco shed all at the same price or a little cheaper. Sounds like a no brainer to me.
Great article James!
